grounds for mis representation by a hired attornet?

i need to know what do i have to do to show that my boyfriends lawyer did not act in his best intrest. it was a federal case and he was sentenced to twelve years, the lawyer had him sing a plea agreement that was not binding. my boyfriend was not informed of that aspect, the lawyer also told him the agreement was for the lower end of the scale which would be 39 months never gave him a copy and come to find out the lower end was the 144 mo. one charge alone was manditory 60 mo. how do i get the ball rolling? this lawyer cost us $10,000 so i obvisouly do not have means to hire another! HELP PLEASE!

Contact the federal defender program and ask that office to contact him regarding an appeal or possibly a writ. In a California state case he would ask that his attorney file an appeal. You should do this quickly as the time to file an appeal after the judgement, sentencing, is generally very short.
