Can anyone please explain the STATEMENT AGAINST PENAL INTEREST Hearsay Exception?

It is a statement of the nature of "I did it". If you really want to understand the the concept of this exception to the hearsay rule go to the library and read Jefferson's Evidence Bench Book. Jefferson is the dean of evidence in California, and his book has examples of each area that he discusses.
