Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Hello,

I'm inquiring on behalf of a friend who was placed on Informal Probation for 3 years in Riverside County, CA. She has completed her 3 years without a problem. What kind of documentation exists to prove completion of Informal Probation and how does one go about retrieving such documents?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks so much.

It depends; if the court asked probation to prepare a report before the conclusion of probation, that report would show that the probationer successfully completed probation. However, that's unlikely; sch reports are NOT prepared during a grant of informal probation. Usually, informal probation just ends by operation of law at the end of the probation period without any expressed finding on the record. Instead, it is the absence of paperwork that will "prove" completion. The court docket will show the date that probation started and that there were NO probation violations during the probation period.

If you really need written proof, you could start with the clerk's office to see if they will generate specific documentation of successful completion. If that fails, your friend can contact her former lawyer and ask the lawyer to get the judge to make a finding of successful completion so that it can be entered into the docket.
