Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Hello,

I was hoping to get some help regarding a check I cashed. I originally cashed it through my mobile bank app but it did not go through right away so I thought it was denied. The same day I cashed it at a local liquor store. The check ended up clearing in both places but was later rejected by the liquor store owners bank so I received a phone call stating I owed the money. I don't have the money anymore but I would like to repay the liquor store owner by making payments. The total was $465 plus he is charging me a $35 fee. I don't make much money I would like to pay him $150 a month until it's paid off but I'm not sure he'll take it. should I just turn myself in to the police? I think he will file a report anyway if I don't pay him back right away. Thank you.

No, you do not have to turn yourself into the police. Nor should you talk to the police. If your community has a community court or a neighborhood mediation service. You might try to use it.
