Assuming that is the charge he is convicted of [Penal Code section 243(e)(1)], he faces up to a year in county jail and/or a $2,000 fine, along with other conditions of probation including batterer's treatment programs, etc.

That's just the maximum. What a person actually gets sentenced to depends on what they can prove, the facts of the case, his prior record (if any) and what his attorney can work out on his behalf.
