I got a ticket for illegal use of a handicap placard. what happens when I appear in court

If this is your first offense I would expect that the court will levy a fine. The first appearance is the arraignment. Ask the judge, if the judge does not explain his or her sentencing policy, for an indicated sentence. If the sentence involves jail time you can request a continuance to retain an attorney.
