Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Impersonating an Attorney

My grandmother has appointed a woman "Power of Attorney" over her assets, and possibly has appointed her "conservator" over her 13 year old dependent. Their friendship grew on the fact that this woman was (claimed to be) an attorney and set to help her. This woman even has business cards claiming to be an attorney, the message on her answering machine also states "law Offices" of....... and My grandmother has paid her money for her "attorney" services. I have checked with the California State Bar Association, and there is nothing associated to her as far as being an attorney. I have checked with information, and there is no listing for such a law office. Where do I go to run an investigation on her? I haven't gone to my grandmother with this because, she is fairly brainwashed by this woman. And two weeks ago, my grandmother was placed in a old folks home not to mention that she has now filed for bankruptcy.

Re: Impersonating an Attorney

You should contact the police department, local district attorney regarding this woman. Also contact the state bar association. The state bar association is presently working to catach up with a back log of cases. This woud be considered a serious case and would probably get a high priority.

You may also want to contact an attorney to review options for obtaining holds on assets that this woman may have.
