Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Indcident that occured.

my girlfriend an i had an argument outside my house. I called the cops but she started to ring my door bell with her thumb. I grabbed her thumb away from the door bell. She then did it again and then again I grabbed her hand from the door bell.

The cops came and when asked what happened, I told them that I just wanted her to leave. She showed the cops her right thumb, there was a bump there. She said that I had hurt her and she wanted me to get arrested. At first she said it wasnt an accident and she wanted me to get arrested, however She kept on changing her story few times with the police. Finally they hand cuffed me and almost arrested me. At the end of it all she said it was an accident. No charges were pressed and I was free.

On 5/17/08 I got a call from her informing me of the rest of the news that later that day on 5/11/08 hand was looked at, apparently there was some nerve damage and a fracture. She has been in contact with the police all week. She said she does not want to press criminal charges against me. So my question is: how do I proceed form here ?... do I have to take care of the costs and not to have this come back to me and be a never ending situation?

Re: Indcident that occured.

Without admitting any wrongdoing I would tell your girlfriend I would cover the medical costs. Your willingness to do it should not be used against you in any prosecution - there is actually a law which says that. Otherwise, get your money ready for a bondsman and a criminal defense attorney. This one will most likely result in prosecution. The fact that your girlfriend told many different stories should be helpful to your case.

Re: Incident that occured.

What were you thinking? You had a physical altercation with your girlfriend and -you- called the cops? Do you have a death wish?

1. Double-drop girlfriend. If you don't know the meaning of "double-drop," ask a woman. If there are any belongings of hers in your house, ship them to her or have a third party come and get them.

2. Immediately contact a criminal defense lawyer and a bail bonds person. Obtain money for these any way you have to. You are going to need both, probably within the next couple of days. Get rid of anything illegal or questionable that might be in your house or your car.

3. Do not talk to the police, and I mean NOT ONE WORD, except "Can I call my lawyer." Do not admit the police to your house, and do not consent to a search. Do not volunteer to go to the police station.

4. I assume a restitution order that you pay her medical bills will be part of your sentence, and you will have to pay them when you get out.
