what is protective custody? does this mean you get individual housing?

Thank you for your posted inquiry.

"Protective Custody" does not necessarily mean that an inmate gets his own housing. It means that they are kept away from the general population, but are typically kept with other protective custody inmates. This varies considerably from facility to facility, depending upon what is available at a particular prison or jail.
