Instant messages used to convict?

I was wondering if instant messaging particuarly ''google talk'' could be used in court to convict someone of child soliciting or similar offense. 2 -3 characters were both created between the 17 year old and i think late 20's male. No sexual acts were performed but the 17 year olds character kissed the older male's character, and stopped and then the male would kiss the 17 and she would say sopt and he did. then the 17 year old would kiss and do stuff with the other 2 characters she created, not with the older males. Can this be used in court to convict the male?

Are you referring to a Avitar ? A virtual/cyberspace character ? Assuming the solicitor had knowledge of the minor's age, and sufficient sexual words were exchanged with intent to induce and set up an actual physical meeting between the two, I believe he can be charged with attempt to commit a criminal act, involving a minor.
