Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
if you are under investigation for embezzelment/grand theft but you have not been formally charged with anything and you leave the state what are the possibilities that could happen? do they have ability to harass family or frinds of where abouts?

If the police are not involved, I assume you are "under investigation" by your employer.
Under these circumstances, you are free to go wherever you want to go. However, if it looks like you are skipping town and trying to avoid being prosecuted, it could be used in a subsequent criminal trial to show you knew you were guilty.
If criminal charges are later filed an a warrant is issued for your arrest, you could be extradited, which means arrested and brought back to California.
