Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
juvenile charges
can someone please clarify the truths about charges committed as a juvenile? A charge I committed as a juvenile is coming up on a background check and I was under the impression that these records were unattainable once over 18? What is going on here?

Re: juvenile charges
It's a common myth that juvenile records are somehow automatically sealed and un-viewable once you turn 18. Unfortunately, not the case. Most, but not all, juvenile records can be sealed upon a motion by your attorney in court.
Re: juvenile charges
Get this. Under a new law, persons with some types of serious juvenile offenses can't ever have the records sealed or "expunged" -- even though records of the exact same offenses can be "expunged" if the offenses were committed by an adult.
