Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Juvenile sentencing
I have a friend who was charged with assault with a firearm, no one was injured though. He was sentenced to 18 months at a group home. He was at the group home 6 months then he fleed because of harsh treatment and turned his self in. Note that he was in jail a year before sentencing started. The DA and probation are trying to send him to the California Youth Authority for 5 years and he would be able to parole in 18 months. Can they do that?
