can a knife be used for a tool
my son is on prole he had no brake light s on his truck an had to use a knife to strip a wire on it with out thing he put the knife in has back pocket he was on his way home and was stoped for no brake lights he told the officer that he had a knife in his back pocket any way my question is can a knife be used for a tool they are try to get him for the knife

A knife can be used as any number of things -- a letter opener, a paperweight, etc. -- but that doesn't change the fact that it's a knife. If your son's parole terms forbid him to have a knife, then he can't have one regardless of how he wants to use it.
