Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
knowledge of stoen property
my roomate has knowledge of stolen checks in her room. her husband took them from another roomate, that is in the hospital. I want to know if her knowledge of these checks, makes her an accomplice to a crime, or intent to commit a crime.

Re: knowledge of stoen property
Merely knowing about someone else's crime is never criminal, and there are very few circumstances under which a person with such knowledge is required to report it to the authorities. I see no reason to think any of those circumstances are present here.
The fact that your friend's husband is the thief makes it even less likely that she can be required to provide this information, since the law generally protects the confidentiality of communication between spouses.
Unless your friend has actively helped her husband to commit the crime or to cover it up, I don't see how she could be charged with any crime.
