Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
looking on the lasd.org site at a friends "case information", 49B1 appears under the disposition code section. what could this mean? are there different uses for this code?

I think it should read 849(b)(1) - the Penal Code section that authorizes a peace officer to release a person who was arrested if they determine there are insufficient grounds for a criminal complaint to be filed.
That doesn't mean the case is completely over necessarily. The person could have been released from custody while further investigation is done. Or - it may be over if they determine there is nothing to the case.
