Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Can a lawter just quit a case?
I'm wondering if a layer can just quit a case or if a client can just fire them. I see in the headlines all the time about lawyers asking a judge to be removed from a case and other times where people have just fired their attorneys.
What needs to be done to change lawyers?

You or your lawyer can ask the court to withdraw from the case, if it is your lawyer, or to substitute counsel, if you are dissatisfied with your representation. Permission must be granted by the court.
