Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

can a lawyer do a more extensive people search than the information that is publ

I am searching for a possible witness for an upcoming trial. I have quite a bit of pertinate info on the person, but she may have recently married, and I do not know her possible new last name. I have done several public record searches using her old last name, and have come up with some possibilities for her whereabouts. However, I do not really have the money to do the ''extensive'' (and expensive!) searches on all these possibilities, without cutting into my living expenses.

Would a lawyer be able to access all the records on the leads I have, without paying all the fees, and help me narrow my search? Could the lawyer get more info than I could?

In short, would it be more cost effective to pay for a laywer for a day, have them find out all they can, or just pay the fees for the extensive searches that I have, and take my chances they are the right person?

You should try talking to private investigators instead of lawyers. They are better at finding people because that is what they do for a living, and they are also usually less expensive. You might still decide that the online services are the better way to go, but if you are considering hiring professional help then you should not hire an attorney for the job.
