Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Can a lawyer promise results

On my initial consultation with my lawyer he told me that if I want to Stay Out Of Prison that I should hire him, and he also told me that he had acouple of ''markers'' owed to him in the DA's office. That was 7 months ago and in 2 weeks I will be pleading guilty and probably will be sentenced to 5 years, was my lawyer being ethical in telling me what he told me at my inital consultation? he also promised results at a ''motiom to supress the evidence'' hearing, and we were denied and lost that hearing.he has a good reputation and I paid a nice chunk of money to hire him, but he is not doing what he stated he could in the beginning.
