Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

If the lawyer is telling us that she won the case but my uncle received a letter from governor saying that his released was denied. Can this be possible? What is the process after winning a case?

We need more information. What type of case are we talking about? At what stage are we at?Does your uncle have other cases? Where is your uncle housed? Was there a trial? Is this a habeas? etc
