''Is it necessary to have a lawyer''
My wife is a bookkeeper.Is it necessary for her to have a lawyer if the court commanded her to attend a trial in front of a jurors to be a witness against her former boss?

The answer depends upon the reason she is being called to testify. If there is a question about her conduct, then she should review the matter with an attorney. The court and District Attorney are unlikely to adequately protect your right not to testify against yourself.
