if you leave your keys in your front door and you see someone steal them can the cops do anything?

They are your keys, and they were stolen, and whomever stole them is guilty of the crime of petty theft. Whether or not you would be able to interest the police is anybody's guess. Now that you've had to change the locks, don't leave your keys in the front door. And don't leave them under the doormat or under a rock or in a planter.

I agree with Mr. Stone, Can the cops do anything? Yes. Will they? Probably not. This probably not going to rank high on their list of priorities. They are not going to go CSI on it. Report it to the police on the non-emergency number and change the locks.
