Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Following Legal Advice
My company retained a lawyer to draw up a contract and guidlines for operating our business. We spent $80,000 for fees to make sure we were operating according to the laws of the land. We were assured that by following the contract to the letter we would not be involved in any criminal matter. Today we have been indicted under Ricco laws. Is there no break for people who spend money for leagal fees to make sure we are operating within the law. We were told by regulatory bodies that they could not approve our business methods. We were told we had to reatain a lawyer to advise us.

Re: Following Legal Advice
Following the advice of an attorney is not a defense to committing a crime. You should contact the law firm that gave you the $80,000 in advice and request that they pay for your criminal defense attorney or attorneys.
