legal or illegal search

can a person who is not on search and seizure or probation be handcuffed and searched in thier own front yard without being told why its happening.

It depends. You will need to include more details for a better answer. For example, was there any contraband in plain view? Is the house know as a "drug" location? Were the police serving an arrest warrant? Was the person eventually arrested?
