Do I have any legal remedy for verbal abuse by a school custodian? I am not a student or a school employee.

Possibly, but more facts are necessary. It might be intentional infliction of emotional distress, but it has to be severe emotional distress such as the type that requires medical attention, perhaps even continuing psychiatric care.
Likewise, the "abuse" might be considered defamation if what was said of you was defamatory and heard by another person.
Otherwise, you have an uphill battle, as there is still a First Amendment.
Good luck.
