Is there a list of chemicals that are illegal to obtain or that are watched by the US/Californian government?

Presumably the purchase of most chemicals and apparatus that could possibly be used for manufacturing drugs or explosives is closely watched.

There is a good recent article on Slashdot, "Anti-Terrorism and the Death of the Chemistry Set," on the demise of Junior's former ability to turn the family home into a Superfund site.

Also, the California Health and Safety Code lists by name several hundred substances that are regulated, prohibited, etc. Look it up at www.leginfo.ca.gov .
