Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

licensing prerequisites for psuedo- law enforcement positions

Need to know if I am allowed to become a private

investigator or bounty hunter. I have a felony

coviction in this state over 18 years ago. I am also

applying for a certificate of rehabilition now. What

are my chances. Bounty hunter sounds like more fun.

Will I be allowed to carry a gun after my pardon? By

the way, my offense was not drug related and I did not

use a firearm. Thanks for your tim

Re: licensing prerequisites for psuedo- law enforcement positions

You can get your felony downgraded to a misdemeanor under Penal Code Section 1203.4 (or may be 1204.3) if you've never spent time in prison.

However, there may be a problem with violating Federal Laws concerning your rights to carry a firearm. You might find yourself in a position where it's lawful to do the work you are interested in in California, but violate Federal Laws taking the firearm into another state or Federal enclave.

I'd research the problem both from the State and Federal aspects.
