This requires a very complex answer, depending, for its accuracy, on many factors that you don't mention. Generally, they can hold you until you post bail (however long that takes) if the charges are filed, and only 48 hours if charges aren't filed. If charges aren't filed, and you're released, you can be rearrested later on.
