Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
How long can a narcotic investigation go for on a person with no criminal record. Can narcotics follow a person for ever or is there a time limit on there investigation. I heard they have a year to make there case or they have to end there investigation, is this true.

An investigation can last years. For instance, law enforcement is always gathering evidence about organized crime, but they often wait to make arrests when they have enough to convict a major player.
You may be confused with the statute of limitations, which mandates that charges must be filed within a certain time period of a crime or the person cannot be prosecuted. For most drug felonies in California, that's three years.
