How long can a person be held for questioning for a murder investigation?

If they are not arrested they can end the questioning and leave the police station whenever they want to. If they are arrested, then they must be charged before a judge, unless they waive time, within 24-48 hours they must be brought before a judge to have the formal charges read against them.

If they are held, meaning arrested, they can only be held 48 hours. After that the police have to either arrest, or arraign on charges.
