Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

How long can the statute of limitation be tolled for? If the statute of limitation is 3 years, the District Attorney's Office doesn't file a charge, then you leave the state for like 5 years, how long can it be tolled for.?

Didn't you already ask this question? Is this a real question, or a hypothetical? Were you actually charged with a crime 8 years after the fact, or are you just being paranoid, I mean, apprehensive? Usually DA rejects stay DA rejects. The more time that goes by, the better your lawyer can argue that you were denied the right to a speedy trial, regardless of the statute.
