Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
How long are warrents posted?
I was on a house boat on Lake Shasta and our boat hit
another boat and the driver had been drinking but five
other people got arrested for public intoxication and I
was wondering what would happen if I did not show up.
Would this warrent be over my head for the rest of my
life?

Re: How long are warrents posted?
If the warrant is an out-of-state warrant, it can be left there forever, depending on the state. It usually doesn't cost the state anything as far as I know to keep the warrant active. However, the state might have a policy to keep misdemeanor warrants a specific length of time. What the other state can do is to let Idaho know that you have an outstanding warrant and Idaho can suspend your driver license on that basis. It is best to deal with it long distance by talking to the prosecutor that is prosecuting the case and to make arrangements to pay any fine, etc. They are usually quite helpful to me on these. I don't know how helpful they would be to you as the defendant. Contact the prosecutor and see if you can make a deal on the case. My teleph # is 208-345-3817 if you want me to handle this for you.
