Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Max Factor heir Trial

How can a judge continue a trial against someone who has jumped bail. What is that term called. Can that person be sentenced even if not present? Can the judge continue because the person's case is already in motion? Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Usually the judge will simply issue a warrant for the defendant, and the case would resume once the defendant was captured and returned to the court. At times, the Court will proceed to trial without the defendant. This is known as proceeding to trial ("in absencia").
