A medical emergency does not automatically exonerate anyone from failing to comply with a subpoena. It may provide a mitigating defense to a contempt citation. The best thing to do is to contact the person issuing the subpoena, as soon as possible, and have them move the hearing or determine if compliance with the subpoena is still necessary.
