Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

MIP, furnishing alcohol to a minor, Fake ID, possesion of marijuana

I am 20 years old and was caught selling alcohol to a minor. It was a setup by the police and the kid asked me if i was 21, i said no and he asked me to buy him a 40. i said no at first and when i came out my friend said i should sell to the stranger and my friend would just buy his own. When i was caught I showed them the fake ID i used to buy the alcohol, i also had a miniscule amount of marijuana. I have no record of any sort and am wandering what i am in for as far as compounding citations and if there is anyway out of this.

You need a good defense attorney. If you can't afford one, the court will appoint one for you at public expense.

Note that being "set up" is unlikely to matter in this case. Many people think that such arrests automatically amount to entrapment, but that is not true. Sting operations are perfectly legal when they are carried out properly. Nothing you have said suggests that there was anything improper with this one.

Your question is very involved and there is no way you can get a complete answer in this type of format. I suggest you use any contacts you have or know and find a good criminal defense attorney. The earlier the better, as they may be able to prevent some things from happening by going to work immediately on your case.

If you can not afford an attorney a public defender will be appointed for you. If for any reason there is a conflict then a "conflict attorney" will be appointed to your case.

First, these are serious charges and this is not something to take lightly. Do not speak with the District Attorney or the Police unless you have an attorney present.

Next, the facts surrounding what you are describing as a "set up" may very well be perfectly within the law. Stop talking about the situation unless you are talking with your attorney.

If you can not find an attorney then contact your local county bar association and ask them for a referral to a criminal defense attorney. If hiring an attorney is not an option then wait till the court appoints a public defender to your case. However, do not talk with the Police or the D.A. under any circumstances unless you have an attorney present.

Good luck
