Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

misdemeanors

I wanted to know how I can get a misdemeanor off of my record. I don't know how to go about doing that. I called the court house, they told me I needed to get an attorney. I can't afford one, so I was wondering if there are any pro bono attorneys that might be able to aid me in this process.

Re: misdemeanors

Most attorneys will not handle any criminal case on a pro bono basis. I would however, consider giving you a steep discount on my normal fees.

Re: misdemeanors

The clerk misinformed you. You should not need an attorney to expunge a misdemeanor. It is a simple form that you could fill out and submit yourself. Call the clerk again and ask for the expungement form.

Alternatively, contact the public defender's office at the court where you were convicted. They might be able to help you.

Last resort, hire a lawyer. An expungement could be handled for a modest fee - mine would be around $500.

These can be done for very little. Call around. You probably wont find an Attorney to do it for free, but you might find an attorney that will do it for a reasonable and affordable rate.

Re: misdemeanors

Contact the local adult probation department and ask for the form to have a misdemeanor expunged. They should provide you with the form. Fill out the form return it to the probation department along with the required fee.
