Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

If a defence attorney files correctly and before the jury's verdict, which comes back as guilty, can the judge rule against herself that something she may have said prejudice one or the other side that there may not have been a fair trial? Can the judge overturn the jury's verdict and order a new trial?

I a motion for a new trial,the Court can reconsider orders/rulings made during trial.
