Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My neighbor claims that she has filed charges that I have killed her cat, and that the police "are coming to arrest" me, "just wait." Would police really just come and arrest me because she said that? I have not killed her cat or anyone's cat, dog or anything other than a bug. Her cat is missing. I could not even identify her cat. She said this in a very loud voice that carried far in her front yard, as I was walking from my car to my front door. She also turned to a large young man who was standing next to her in her driveway and said very loudly, "Look, that's the woman that killed my cat. That's her. Can you believe it?" She went on and on. I did not respond, but it really upset me. If the police were interested in following up with her accusation, would they contact me? They would not just come and arrest me, would they? I have not responded to her.

You neighbor sounds insane. Police get calls all the time from crazy people. Last year I read about a woman who called the police because she did not like the french fries that McDonalds served her.

You can't live your life worrying about whether or not crazy people have called the police. At best, they may interview you to find out what happened. Tell them she is crazy and you did not know anything about a cat. If you are actually charged with a crime or are arrested, invoke your right to an attorney.

I respectfully disagree with Mr. Roach in that, in my opinion, it is never a good idea to converse with police officers who are investigating you for possible criminal activity. Say nothing to them. Sometimes the cops believe the crazy people.
