Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

NSF returned checks

I recently opened my first checking account. It was intended for me to be able to deposit my income tax check & student financial aide, but the irs kept my check due to an old debt. So I went on-line to try and get money loans to cover the couple checks I had cashed. I recieved convirmation #'s and approval #'s from numerous companies. My on-line bank statement, when I looked at it, didn't show a negative balance, but instead had, ''current balance:xxxx''. This was in parinthisis, not a ''-''. Being this was my first bank account, I didn't know what it meant. Now I have checks bouncing all over town, & a couple checks that I wrote on the account after the bank closed it. I had recently moved and my mail was forwarded to some unknown address, so I never recieved the bank statements informing me about the negative balance. What kind of trouble can I be in for this mix up?

Re: NSF returned checks

In addition to incurring huge overdraft fees with the bank and returned check fees for the checks, you could be facing fraud and other criminal charges. You should immediately contact each individual and pay the amount of the check and the returned check charges. This will reduce the possibility of criminal charges being filed.
