Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
I want to become a nurse but have a felony conviction for sales of narcotics?
Four months after turning 18 I was arrested and plead guilty (for dumb reasons) to a felony conviction for sale of narcotics. Today, I am 30 and am taking my last prerequisite class needed to apply for nursing school. Although I have written the state licencing board and they have told me I may still be licenced I am afraid I may not be able to get into a school because of my past or worst yet not be able to get a job if I do finish school. I have had the conviction expundged but my attorney did not really explain what this does for my record and my ability to get a job. Any suggestions or info you can give me as far what the expundgement does for me and what my chances are of finding employment as a nurse. Additionally, I have not got into any trouble since then and compeleted my probation.

You seem eligible for a 1203.4 petition, to dismiss the charges. Also you may file a certificate of Rehabilitation and request for Governors pardon after the 1203.4 is granted. These will be of great assistance to you. I have had the nursing license issue before and sometimes it takes the 1203.4 and cert to get through it all.
