Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
need to obtain copy of conviction records
I need to know how to go about getting copies of records from the county of Santa Barbara, California. It would be for an embezzlement conviction, I have a name, and the date I believe was between 1989 - 1994. Can you tell me who to call to get this information? I understand it is of public record. The person was convicted of a felony of embezzlement of $38,000 + and was on house arrest. She is now saying that it was dropped to a misdemeanor. Thank you more than you will know for your help.

Re: need to obtain copy of conviction records
You could try one of the commercial information providers such as KnowX.com or ChoicePoint. Under CA law if the defendant did not go to state prison the offense can often be reduced to a misdemeanor after the fact.
