Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
i need to obtain a copy of a police report for a physical assault, where i was the victim, but when i called the LA Police Dept. where it occurred they had me call records and said they only keep them for 10 years and the incident happened about 18 year ago....i've heard about cases being reopened about more then that amount of time and they have the records, so could it be archived somewhere?
i need it because what happened to me relates to a recent incident where i had short-term memory loss that i never experienced before (completely shut down for a brief time, although i have had some phantom and real soreness/mild swelling and sensitivity in the exact area where it occurred) due to the trauma to my head and was accused of petty theft at a store and received a notice to appear for an arraignment in court
is there any way i can get the information i need, as i want to be able to have it with me for court to show that this did happen to me...i don't know why i never got the report right after the incident happened

A better approach would be to visit a neurologist and have his report available to your lawyer.
