Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Open container in public

I received an open container while on a university's property that enforces county ordinances. When I contacted a local officer, I was told drinking alcohol is allowed in County parks not specifically marked. Although the campus is not a county park, it adheres to county laws, and the space was a park like open space without any signs prohibiting alcohol. The university does not have a dry campus policy, and I am of legal age. Do I have a case to fight this?

Re: Open container in public

No. "County park" does not mean any place within the county that seems "park-like", or even any such place that is owned by some governmental agency. It means an actual park, officially designated as such and owned by the county. Your local university campus fails to meet these criteria, so the ordinances that apply specifically to county parks do not apply there.
