Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
I opened up a public storage place for a discounted price on a larger unit, that i really didn't need but it was cheaper than a smaller one. My room mate asked if they could put some things in the storage and i said yes since i had alot of space. I recently was told by my room mate that she went into the storage and it looked like someone took things out of it and on top of it, she claims that because ALL of my boxes were gone she then tried to change the account over to her name and they refused because it is under my name and i need to okay it. Whether this story of Just ALL my boxes missing is true or not, i haven't been to storage yet because i am in disbelief that my things would be missing, since all i had was 5-6 boxes there and all 40 other boxes are hers, but she did not mention that her boxes were gone, she claims now that she believes that the people at the storage unit might have something to do with it. If this is true, what can i do and how do i go about finding out if the storage unit or she stole my things? I had just moved out of my room mates home about a week ago and in no way did i ever express to her that i was taking any of my things out of the storage because i still wanted to keep it, what are my rights

Your "friend" is probably a crook. You can ask the storage unit folks if they have surveillance cameras to see if someone broke into your unit and ask to see them. You can also file a police report for stolen property, breaking and entering and burglary. Then get your "roommate" "friend" to pay for 3/4 the storage costs......Good luck.
