Penal Code 243(e)(1), domestic violence battery, is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. If you get probation, you would have to do a 52 week domestic violence program.
If you aren't a citizen, you could be deported.
Federal law prohibits anyone convicted of a domestic violence misdemeanor from possessing a firearm for life.
I would strongly suggest consulting with a lawyer before pleading guilty to any offense. If you can't afford to hire your own lawyer, the judge will appoint the public defender to represent you.
In addition to what Mr. Marshall points out, you could also receive a fine not exceeding $2,000. That increases as the court adds all of these administrative fees, and orders restitution, etc.
