Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Can a parolee or someone on probation or parole play the CA Lottery?

I have one friend who is on parole for aggravated assault, and one who is on probation for something in TN but currently lives in CA and her probation is officiated by our County probation department. Are they allowed to play the CA State Lottery, and if not, what is the statute or code that addresses this issue?

Yes, unless the terms of his parole forbid it. A specific provision forbidding a parolee to play the lottery would be unusual, but more general provisions against gambling are reasonably common. Such provisions would apply to the lottery.

Yes, they can play the lottery, unless, not playing the lottery is a specific condition of their release and I doubt that would be the case.

Everyone age 18 or over is free to gamble on the state lottery. Of course a felon who plays the lottery should be on "America's Dumbest Criminals," because the odds are so bad.
