Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
PC 484(A) and PC 508 charges...
I have never had a criminal charge in my life and just recently while working for target I took an iPod from work without paying for it. I was not arrested but asked to leave the store by local police and target asked me to pay restitution for the amount of the item which I took. I signed a letter saying I would pay over time in payments. I was unable to pay in time and they forwarded this case to a collection company. I just payed it off finally 2 weeks ago and now target has filed a complaint and charges against me and I received the letter from the court today. I have no idea what to do, I am scared and I have no prior's and a clean record. Both of these charges are Misdemeanor's according to court letter and the value of the property i took was 229.00 dollars. What do i do?

The short answer to "What do I do?" Is that you contact a criminal defense attorney to discuss your case. If you end up with a theft conviction on your record, say goodbye to working in retail ever again, as well as many good jobs.
You need help and you need to work with your attorney to try and work this out so it stays off your record.
