Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Pc 417 (a) (2)

i had a dispute with a neighbor's teenage daughter and their rottweiler who attacked my dog. a little later when the neighbor came to my house with several other people, my wife asked me to get the shotgun since we didn't know if the people were armed or what their intentions were. the gun was never waved or pointed at anyone. it was simply held in an upright position. we called the cops but when they showed up we were the ''bad guys'' because we had a shotgun. (it was put away when the cops showed up). i have been cited for PC 417(A)(2). i have read this is punishable with jail time. i feel like this was self defense due to him coming to my house with a group of people with unknown intentions. i also feel like he should have been charged with something but i don't know what. is this charge usually given jail time? do you think i need a lawyer? and, i know everybody says this but the cops were not there to help. not me anyway.

I would hire a lawyer and fight this. I would also have the lawyer sue the owner of the Rottweiler. Unless there is something else you are not telling me.
