A defendant's income is irrelevant when setting bail. Every county should have a bail schedule - a set amount of bail for each charge. A judge can deviate upwards or downwards from that standard amount based on many factors, including prior record and the facts of the case, but under the Penal Code, "public safety" is to be considered as the primary purpose in setting bail(even in a first time domestic violence case).

273.5 can also be charged as a felony or a misdemeanor. How it's charged makes a huge difference in the bail amount.

As I am from L.A. County I don't know the recommended bail for a 273.5 p.c. charge in Mariposa. However you can call a local bail company and they should be able to inform you. Also bail has nothing to do with one's income. Bail is only to insure one's appearance in court and for a judge to decide he/she considers is the person a danger or a flight risk. Also for purposes of bail, the judge must believe the charges are true. I hope this answer is helpful. You may visit my website at www.wallinlaw.com. Thank you. David Wallin
