Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

penal code 502

I am a substitute teacher of a school district. I accessed the district's computer and read employee emails. I would like to know what sort of criminal charge this is and what the fines and/or punishment of this crime consists of.

Aside from possible fines, imprisonment and/or probation, you probably wouldn't be able to work as a teacher, or in any job, ever again. PC 502 is computer misuse. You could also be charged with identity theft, a separate offense. You didn't say whether or not you were caught....
